No matter what type of woman you are there are some things that translate on all levels and that is the beauty routine. Whether it entails a 3 step skin care program, multiple products or just a bar of soap we all have something that we love to get done; a secret indulgence. In this fast paced city fashionable woman may play by their own rules but when it comes to their nails, somebody else runs the show. Sure we can do our own, but it usually ends with a pile of q tips and cotton balls, a lot of mess, and less then perfect nails. The $7 manicure is a ubiquitous art form on the island of Manhattan, and Nail salons are about as common as Chase bank, and Starbucks. Much like the routine of your daily latte, and atm withdrawal, the image of a city girl walking down the street by way of flip flops as her cotton filled toes hobble across the street is a common one.
The art of doing your own nails is a tricky one. For some it takes skill, others, creativity. And for all, balance. Some women refuse to do their own nails, while others live by it. But the nail industry is not what it used to be, and for those whose self manicures end in mess and tears, there are new options that stand to make the $7 mani a thing of the past. Nail strips and decals can virtually replace polish in one fell stick, while other accessories like nail pens make french manicures a more obtainable at home goal, and certainly a less expensive one. With so much creativity and so many options at our fingertips, the at home manicure has taken on a new form. So, when I got the opportunity to host a Sally Hansen” party and test out all those options, I jumped at the chance. I love hosting my girls get togethers, and we’re always planning pot luck and buffet dinners, so I figured what better then to host a even better buffet… a beauty one. With Spring right around the corner, the temperature and moods of everyone seem just on the cusp of a big season changer.Suddenly everyone’s in a good mood, the sun is shining, and the fashions start to change. But now, there’s more then just the hottest apparel, shoes and handbags to contend with as the season changes. Thanks to Sally Hansen, and the booming nail industry, you dont only have to care about the trends that you wear on your body, but also the ones that you polish onto your nails. So when I hit Walgreens to prepare for my Friday Night Girls Night, I had a few things in mind, namely, my standout trends of the upcoming spring season. For some extra help and inspiration, I used the Sally Hansen trend guide, which also doubled as a shopping list as I walked down the aisle, treating it like a overpacked Sizzler buffet. The Sally Hansen section, a smorgasbord of nail food satisfied my hunger. Finally, when I had scooped up as many nail pens, Salon Effects strips, Insta Dri, and Hard as Nail Polishes as I could, I cleaned my plate, and went to pay my bill, rewards card in hand. And the cherry on top landed when upon my total purchase, I earned $5 on my Balance Rewards good for my next buy. By the time Friday came, I was ready for the buffet line; and proudly boasted my colorful and scrumptious spread for the girls. A tray filled with Sally Hansen products allowed for many different options, a choice for every type, and a color for every mood. As many girl groups go, mine is an eclectic one; much like a buffet, there is a vast variety to choose from, and with that, an array of styles. And with a plate filled with the top trends, and looks that were available to try, I saw all the different personalities unfold. Some stayed familiar, some tried something new, some struggled with their new self manicurist titles, and others found their calling. No matter the method, manicures will never go out of style, and appropriately, neither will friendship. Women will continue to want to be pampered, and spas everywhere will continue to meticulously comply. And on the home front, women will still polish off a bottle of wine while gabbing, even if they can’t manage to finish the polish on their left hand. |
