If you’re a style maven it might be hard to imagine, but there are in fact people out there who aren’t so interested in personal style. Many don’t keep up with fashion, or pride themselves on knowing trends. Others are Instagramming our fashion purchases weekly. And somewhere in there is a large sect of people who pride themselves on thrift store and vintage shopping. Vintage clothes stores are a real treasure trove and if you haven’t been in one before, it’s time for you to get in there and discover what makes them so cool.

Be Bold With Your Choices

You don’t have to be a risk taker in fashion. As long as you have confidence, and stay true to yourself, your personal style will never really suffer. When you go into a vintage store or market, consider a wide variety of options and remember to keep an open mind. You may discover another side to yourself after all.

Get Clothes Altered to Fit Perfectly

We’ve all been there. You’ve found something you love, in the perfect color with a gorgeous pattern, but it’s completely the wrong size. It clings too much here and it’s baggy there. Some may say if it doesn’t fit like a glove, let it go. I say if you truly love it, and we’re not talking 10 sizes too big, then carpe diem. You can always take items  to a seamstress like | Stitch It Clothing Alterations. I must admit to similar actions on occasion. Also, when talking about vintage shopping, there is always more than one way to work an outfit. Truthfully, there are plenty of uses for old clothes and ways to make them into something new.

Combine Old and New

While a full wardrobe of vintage clothing would be an incredible thing to have, combining old and new is the ideal way to embrace all kinds of different fashion trends and build up your personal style. Invest in a wardrobe staple like a leather jacket but combine it a pair of vintage flared jeans or floral skirt found in your vintage shopping adventures.
