Trend Report Fall/Holiday 2012 ~ Match Point

When I was a little girl, I remember finding my mom’s seersucker shorts, and wanting them so bad, I pulled them up over my ten, or twelve year old body, holding them up with my hands so they wouldn’t drop to my ankles, and cinched them as tight as my tightest belt would go.

Through the natural evolution one’s style roads lead them down, I lost touch with those seer suckers, like a friend from college that you love as a person, but just can’t make the time to visit on a weekend.

They were simple; Gap, and they teetered somewhere on the cusp of totally cool, and totally ridiculous, and went on to ride that line for years. But it was only a few years ago, that I discovered short sleeve blazers, during a style chapter that involved every blazer in short sleeve form in the design of stripes, dots, tartan, and checks. And that day when I found a seer sucker short sleeve blazer and purchased it, also became the day I had an idea to take those extra large shorts out of retirement.

It is in that vein that the fall and holiday shows built their collections. Miu Miu featuring matching almost baroque patterned pants and blazers, reminiscent of Alice in Wonderland, and Ralph Lauren taking his already perfected signatures and putting a relevant spin on them.

Though the simplicity of this has not always translated in the fashion world, perhaps always one step ahead of it’s time, the look has had it’s moments in history. The first pant suit for work, Hillary Clinton, and now.. us

Speaking as someone who usually makes sure to even match her undergarments, I couldn’t be more excited. I might not rock the pant suit, but I love a skirt with matching jacket. I even recently wore a vintage Anne Klein dress w/ matching button down shirt to fashion week. You might say, this trend has met it’s match.
