According to a famous sitcom sometimes you wanna go where everybody knows your name. Other times, you want to do exactly the opposite. So last weekend we hopped in our car.. Oh wait we don’t have a car we live in NYC! We hopped over to Budget and rented a car to escape the hot city for a short nearby getaway over the bridge to Crystal Springs Resort. Some vacations or escapes are built on their distance or time away, while others are more simple in objectives. They require little more than a location other than your daily residence, and the ability to whisk you away to somewhere special, without taking you really that far at all. Sometimes, all you or your family requires is a short jaunt out of the house. A summer staycation where you can feel like you’re on a vacation. And Crystal Springs, the massive, upscale resort in Hamburg, NJ 100% fits the bill. Not only is it just what one needs to escape the city madness for a few hours, but for only a few hours away, it feels much further than that.
When we arrived, I was immediately reminiscent of Dirty Dancing. A enormous, rustic property consisting of 3 upscale lodges, including the sophisticated and most popular Grand Cascades Lodge, the resort boasts larger than life accommodations and surrounding golf courses. 6 award-winning golf courses to be exact (Ballyowen, Black Bear, Cascades, Crystal Springs, Minerals, Wild Turkey) including NJ’s 1 rated Ballyowen.
From the moment you set foot on the sprawling property, you feel a sense of relaxation. From a day at the pool, to thrills on the giant waterslide, to golf at dusk, and live music at night, the resort is one of the best staycations near NYC for a quick little getaway. See what Crystal Springs has to offer you, and for tips on how you can maximize your getaway, check out my weekend guide below.
Enjoy some chill time at the Vista 180, a super chill poolside restaurant that channels Shake Shack. Make sure to grab lunch there.
Master the Fairway, no matter what your skill level may be.
Spend the day at the resort’s gorgeous pool. The massive infinity pool is broken up into two parts, including a kid friendly section that includes a water slide.
Sat Night: Check out Dinner at Crystal Springs Tavern.
Crystal Springs Resort contains a dozen restaurants strewn between the properties. Most notable is Latour, named one of Wine Enthusiast Magazine’s top 100 wine restaurants. It boasts a 135, 000 bottle wine cellar and also gives tours. We were in the mood for something a little more chill and casual, so we made reservations at the Tavern. Dinner was lively, and delicious, set to live music; specifically a late 90’s cover band. A raucous crowd on a Saturday night surrounded us inside the more upscale tavern, as we became part of what would otherwise seem like the usual Friday night in Hamburg.
Spend the morning in the biosphere. The 10,000 sq. ft Tropical Biosphere pool complex is a giant greenhouse that includes fish, a lush, tropical vibe, and most importantly, a water slide that would rival any amusement park. Definitely one of the best parts of the stay, it’s fun for kids and adults, making it a perfect ending for a couple, or family staycation. Multiple indoor, and outdoor nature pools are also located throughout the resort, providing for even more summer fun in the sun.
Enjoy lunch in the The outdoor Chef’s Garden . The inspiring outdoor venue allows guests a truly unique “garden-to-table” al fresco dining experience set amidst beautiful organic vegetables, flowers, herbs and the Kittatinny Mountain Range back drop.
Other options and activities great for the family include the Adventure Center which features archery, hiking, canoeing, fishing, kayaking, paddle boarding, water trampoline and lounges, and horseback riding in a mountaintop setting with pristine lake.
There’s no better time than right now, when the weather and city is at its hottest and stickiest! So hit the road, pack a bag, and head for greener pastures. Right now, I’ve parterned up with the resort for a Stellar Summer discount!
