It’s Friday night, and Fashion Week S/S ’13 #MBFW has officially commenced. We came, tweeted, f-booked, shot street style, blogged, and oh yeah, did what we are all there to actually do, SEE the collections. I love fashion week just as much as any stylisa inhabiting the island of Manhattan, but lately it is almost starting to seem as if it’s more about the hoopla then the actual clothes themselves.
But Wednesday night, when I attended the Vivienne Tam show, for Astonish Magazine, I, like I believe every other woman in the room too, all watched one thing. The clothes.
The theme of the night was geometrics, and Tam displayed them in an array of shapes and colors, on sweaters, and airy dresses; each fabric a canvas for a different geometric pattern. Whites and blacks mixed with splashes of red and green were the perfect backdrop for the theme, and at times the metallics took that futuristic vibe even further.
Adding to the collections was a new unveiling of a jewelry collection; strong gold statements also hinting at a “spacey” theme.
While some shows leave you trying to place what trends will grow from the groundwork you just saw, at this show, it was evident.
Cutouts, in the form of a dress, and matching jacket and pants were on many runways this fashion week, including Vivienne’s, proving that come spring 2013, the perforated cut out will be everywhere. Another notable trend that I for one, have been on board with for quite a while, is the matching 2 piece, of which several pieces strut down the runway. Some in print, and some polka dotted, but it’s clear that the olden ways of a hitchcockian, Tippi Hedren matching suit will make their way down to the masses later this year. Perfectly fitting with the kitten heel trend, but perfect updo not included.
