After deciding I was going to create a small, yet manageable homemade Italian feast for my boyfriend’s 36th birthday, I started scouring for some inspiration. I found it in Onlinehomecookingblogspot.com’s quick, easy videos on Facebook. When I saw the video for homemade string cheese mozzarella sticks, I knew I had picked my appetizer for the evening. These are so simple to make, and you would never, ever know they’re from packaged string cheese- that’s how good they come out!
Though it sounds hard to make homemade mozz sticks, it’s actually incredibly easy. And if you are with a hungry man, like me, then you know although a fresh goat cheese tomato tart sounds amazing, for your ‘family of two’, it just won’t cut it for dinner. Well, at least not for a special occasion. This year, instead of going out, I decided to try my hand at creating a special dinner. Starting with the simple, delicious sides, that of course, steal the show usually. Get the full recipe below and watch the short video on youtube.
Need:
1 package string cheese (8-12 total depending on serving size)
Whole wheat flour – 1 cup
Breadcrumbs – 1 cup
Parmesan cheese grated – 1/2 cup
Milk – 3 tbsp
3 Eggs
1 tbsp butter
Garlic salt & Pepper
In three separate bowls mix, 1: eggs and milk, 2: breadcrumbs and parmesan cheese with garlic salt & pepper, and 3: flour. Lay the string cheese out and cut into halves. Dip into the flour, then move to the egg bowl, then lay in the third breadcrumbs bowl, rolling it back and forth. Repeat all 3 steps one more time, making sure the stick is coated with the breadcrumbs and cheese mixture.
Place all of them on a baking sheet sprayed with cooking oil. Place in freezer for 25-30 minutes and preheat oven to 400 degrees. Remove from freezer, coat lightly with butter, and then place in oven for about 15-20 minutes, turning over halfway through. Voila! Serve with marinara or your preferred sauce, and enjoy!!!!
