Acceptance of my short stature was not always a even flowed, fashion statement. Now, I prance around in flats more then heels, but this took years of work; years of denial, and years filled with platform flip flops, platform sneakers, and having heels added to shoes. So of course it’s fitting that now, finally basking in the glow of being secure enough to wear the flattest sandal or sneaker, that not heel, but shoe platforms are making a HUGE comeback. Sneakers, oxfords, and even sandals…. (But more on that later..)
Flip Flops and sandals are always a must have item for summer, whether you’re short, tall, big, small, female, or male. They’re easy, they’re comfortable (sometimes), and casual. But in recent years, that has changed. Less simple, more bells and whistles. They’re not just an afterthought, for the beach, or running errands; something you put on at the end. The flat sandal has taken it’s own place in the closet as a staple item. One that you actually might pick first, and plan a pair of jeans, or blouses around. And with this season bringing a plethera of styles, and shapes, you don’t have to just settle for one. I had so many left over from last year still in great condition, it crossed my mind to be smart, save money, and keep wearing the ones I had without adding any new ones into the mix. That plan didn’t work out. I picked up a cute polka dot pair for $10 at Forever 21, my pink Chanel sandals are in heavy rotation; definitely one of my most favorite purchases ever, and last week to get out of a horrendous city rainstorm I found sanctuary in Lord & Taylor. And unfortunately their shoe department. Half an hour, and one humid rain storm later, the sky was clear, the streets were packed again, and I had a pair of Enzo Angolini Pink sequin criss cross sandals for $40.00. Damn you, Mother Nature. Go to Lord & Taylor, to snag your pair, or get them online (for more $) here
