When this time of year rolls around, there are few of us who don’t recongize certain things synonymous with the holidays. For example, a kitschy leg lamp, or the line, ‘you’ll shoot your eye out’. That’s because they are just a few of the symbols from the iconic, classic CHRISTMAS (yes, I said the unspoken, politically incorrect word) movie, A Christmas Story. Most know the beloved film, which can be found on virtually millions of televisions across America between December 25th and 26th, either being watched, or simply background noise. Now, the classic tale comes off your screen and out of your living room, right onto the stage. The musical production, adapted closely from the 1983 movie is now playing at the Papermill Playhouse in Millburn, New Jersey through January 3rd. The vivacious, funny, musical is a night of fun for everyone this holiday season, and at under $30 a ticket, its a family event that’s actually affordable.
Take a little peek below:
Because we all need to get rid of family sometimes too, if you plan to leave them behind, why not make a whole evening from it? Enjoy a bite and drink before or after the show at the perfectly located Carriage House restaurant.
The Papermill Playhouse, essentially a a town landmark, has been in Millburn since 1938. The non profit organization, excited to announce their big holiday musical also has some other great events on tap, including upcoming shows like A Bronx Tale and Westside Story. To New Jersians, a night out at the theater can be like date night at a Broadway show, sans the commute. To New Yorkers, it’s a fun excuse to get out of the city for the evening. And getting there couldn’t be easier. Because we all know, sometimes you have to leave the island and explore what else is going on around town. You might just be surprised what you find — In this case, the trip is sure to produce some serious holiday spirit no matter where you embark from.
Last week I attended a press preview and dress rehearsal of the show. There, I recognized all the aforementioned props, including that very famous lamp, featured in one hilarious group dance number.
With some holiday spirit, I want to give two lucky readers a chance to join in the fun too!
