Barcelona, I love You

I was recently watching Vicky Cristina Barcelona, after we finally rented it on Netflix, and  though the movie was good, what really stuck with me afterwards, was the backdrop. That city. The city, though only displayed here and there throughout the Woody Allen movie; not as picturesque as a tribute to oh, say, New York City, was still enough to peak my memories and make me long for the spanish city. Our trip to Barcelona, London and Madrid was only about 5 months ago, but I am still instantly transported back. Days filled strolling the Las Ramblas, lunching on mussels in the La Boqueria, and nights drinking Sangria, and people watching. Colorful rows of Curry in Brick Lane, shopping at my favorite store, JOY, and graffiti strewn walls filled with inspiration everywhere you looked.

There’s nothing like that moment, coming home from the airport, when suddenly the city skyline becomes visible. The city is a reality, only a mere distance away, and you’re home.  But as good as it feels to come home, the rush of taking off to a new destination is exhilarating. No wonder, I keep doing it.
